Poplar: Select this hardwood if your final color goal is Finish from natural light to medium dark color. Poplars tight grain makes it a great selection for painting.

Red Oak: Our most popular train table.  Select this hardwood if your final color goal is natural light to reddish darkness.  With multiple coats of stain a darker finish can be attained.  An oil-based clear polyurethane will give an amber cast, while a water-based clear polyurethane will stay clear.

Hard Maple:  Select this hardwood if your final color goal is natural light to medium darkness.  An oil-based clear polyurethane will give an amber cast, while a water-based clear polyurethane will stay clear.

Cherry: Select this hardwood if your final color goal is a medium to dark reddish color.  Stain for immediate rich dark color.  Or clear coat finish and enjoy the change of color as the wood darkens over time.  An oil-based clear polyurethane will give an amber cast, while a water-based clear polyurethane will stay clear.
